Letter From the Chair

At the Core

By the time you read this, TENCon 2008 will be underway—or, perhaps, done. For me, the months leading up to TENCon were exciting. I watched with amazement as everything came together—from top-notch educational programming to rows and rows of firms offering practical solutions in the TENCon Exhibit Area to the entertainment and networking opportunities. I also looked forward to the much-anticipated announcement Jim Kellner teased us with in Orlando last year.

I trust that TENCon—every aspect of it—met or exceeded your expectations. If you missed the event, talk to someone who went!

For me, TENCon is an opportunity for us, your ASCnet leadership, to show what this organization is all about. Part of what we worked to demonstrate was a set of core values your board has documented over the last few months.

As ASCnet grows and adapts to industry and workplace changes, we must be flexible. At the same time, we must ground this flexibility in the solid foundation the core values provide. As we move forward, we want you to know what’s at the heart of your user group.

Membership Focused: We never want to lose sight of why we do what we do—and for whom. We develop every new initiative with you in mind.

Leadership Excellence: As we fill open board, committee and chapter positions, we seek out volunteers who exhibit leadership qualities. Our role as leaders in industry workflow and technology issues demands it, as does our responsibility to educate members and advocate on your behalf. We’ll continue to develop leadership excellence within and throughout ASCnet.

Value Volunteerism: Volunteers are our heart and soul. Our success is built on volunteers. I am continually impressed at your willingness to donate time and energy. As an organization, we are indebted to all of our volunteers—past, present and future.

Integrity: Our core values call for us to act responsibly and show professional respect to all we interact with, aiming to be inclusive, not exclusive.

Passionate Commitment: We will work with a commitment, desire and drive to provide education to our members and advocate on your behalf.

Highest Quality: We are committed to make every experience our members have with ASCnet reflect the highest quality.

Collaborative, Solutions-Based Community: This is really what we are all about, Users Helping Users. As long as this remains at our core, we will succeed.

We’ll continue to refine and communicate these values so they tell who we are and guide us in our work for years to come.

Individuals we recognize at TENCon personify these values. Awards given during the event clearly honor those who are most deserving. However, they’re just a reflection of the hundreds of you who volunteer time at TENCon, answer newsgroup questions, organize chapter events, lobby carriers for Real Time, and on and on and on.

I thank you all. Every day, you show what we’re all about: Users Helping Users.

Sincerely,

Kim Favreau, CIC, CRM, LIA
